This recipe, made with no sugar and whole-wheat pastry flour, is a tasty, wholesome alternative to the standard pie crusts.

WHOLE-WHEAT PIE CRUST

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole-wheat pastry flour

  • Pinch salt

  • ½ tsp. baking powder

  • ½ cup margarine, softened

  • 3 to 4 Tbsp. cold orange juice

Directions

    1. Combine flour, salt, and baking powder in a mixer bowl.

    2. Cut in margarine with a pastry blender or two forks until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

    3. Add the cold juice tablespoon at a time, mixing with a fork until the pastry is moist enough to hold together.

    4. Divide dough in half. Press dough on bottom and sides of a 9-inch pie plate. Roll out the second half to place over the pie and filling.

    1. Preheat oven to 425°F.

    2. Prick the shell with a fork and weight the bottom with a sheet of wax paper topped with dried beans.

    3. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes. Cool.
